This was written for the @jfb57 100 word challenge Week 19. This week’s prompt is to write up to 150 words of dialogue including the phrase: Are you sure it should be that colour?’
“Hattie?”
“Yes, Kayla.”
“Your mum’s going to freak when she finds out.”
“It’s only chipped in two places, she’ll never know.”
“I’m not talking about the dish, Hattie; I’m talking about the dog.”
“She’ll never know about the dog either. She’s not back from work until 6. We’ll have it sorted by then.”
“Do you think so? I’m not sure his fur’s looking that normal.”
“I think green and pink highlights really suit Yorkshire terriers, Kayla. They blend beautifully with his black fur. It’s a pity we have to dye him black again.”
“Look at where the dye is on his back. Are you sure it should be that colour?”
“That’s just the dye making it look purple; when he’s dry it will be black. Stop worrying Kayla. My exam’s tomorrow, I wish you’d let me practise on you. Dog hair is too different from human hair.”
“Hattie?”
“Yes, Kayla.”
“No chance – the dog had no choice!”
LOL – Could be a new trend in dog grooming
Great stuff! This reminded me of my childhood when our family dog (white golden retriever) decided to roll in fresh manure and went green! I tried to wash her before my parents noticed- but to no avail. Green tinge suited her about as much as the hints would suit the terrier. Still smiling now :O)
Thanks Anna! Green would have looked spectacular on a predominantly light coloured dog. That’s made me smile today. Polly x
This is great. I almost went with hair too, but it is so much more brilliant to dye the dog.
Real or fictional? – could not make my mind up.
Are you alluding to my misspent youth? Definitely fiction. I may have been into a lot of things, but dying the dog, never!
Yep. That sounds about right!
Oh, the poor dog. The sister definitely had the right idea. Very well observed piece.
Excellent. I could almost see the expression on the dog’s face too!
This is a fun one too. I love that ending.
This made me smile. The conversation felt very natural. ( I think dialogue is quite difficult to write.) Isn’t it amazing what you can communicate with just 150 words? x
Love it! I can just see the poor dog.
Love it! I did dye a dog once – or parts of him. And yes, it went blackberry colour. Actually, it seemed like there was a good reason at the time… It washed out eventually.
Oh that’s funny! Bet you got into loads of trouble for that. Glad the dog was OK.
Oh that was soo funny! Now you need to write the conversation that took place when the parents came home to find a purple dog!
The parrot colors of hair dye! Enjoyed, Robin
This is great . . Thought hair colour could feature in a number of posts this week, but love the angle with the dog! (Poor thing!)
Brilliant! That poor dog! Really liked the conversation as it had a great pace to it. I wonder if she passed?
lol this is brilliant. Poor doggy. What a great take on the prompt x
